Detroit’s 53rd annual boat show is set to take place February 12-20, 2011. The event is expected to attract a whopping 600,000 visitors, and will feature a bevy of attractions, such as a Live Shark Encounter Show, a Time Bandit Race Boat, an appearance by Sponge Bob SquarePants, Discover Boating Center, Be A Diver Pool, Adopt a Pet weekends, antique and classic boats, hydroplane race boats, kids boating clinic and free boater safety courses. The show will also serve as a great opportunity to connect with other boaters and look into purchasing a new boat for the summer.
The Detroit Boat Show is partnering with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Oakland County Marine Division to offer a free boating safety class for the duration of the show. Boaters are invited to pick up some safety tips during a free six-hour seminar held Saturday, February 19th. Registration starts at 11 a.m. followed by the course from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Walk-ins will be accepted if space allows.
Hundreds of marine businesses are set to fill the exposition space at Cobo Center to display new 2011 boat models and offer spectacular discounts on boats from 2010, 2009 and 2008.
Featured boats will have the latest engineering, design, materials and colors. These include sleek yachts, runabouts, personal watercrafts, pontoons, fishing boats, ski and wakeboard boats, inflatables, cabin cruisers, paddleboats and bowriders.
The show will also have on-site financing, insurance companies, slip rental, brokerage, vacation planning and charter tips. The large variety of onsite vendors makes it a great place to comparison shop. Many dealers and manufacturers will be offering one-time only early-order discounts at the boat show. These discounts can be cash back programs, accessory bundles or special show pricing options.
Show hours are: Saturdays & Friday: 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Sundays: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday: 3 p.m. – 9 p.m.
